Trimmed eight palm trees.
Member Comments:
The company was punctual, did an excellant job, cleaned up after the work was done, and left the property in pristine condition. I could tell that they had a lot of experience and knew exactly how to trim the palms and I was very happy with the results I would definately use them again.

1 large lemon tree trimmed/shaped and 1 very large ash tree thinned and dead wood removed

I called for an estimate late on a Friday afternoon, Mr. Hayward came out on Sunday morning to provide the estimate, and the work was done that Thursday. He and his crew (2 other workers) arrived on time, worked quickly and efficiently and did a very good job of cleaning up afterward. They did very good work and the price was very reasonable.

I had a large Ficus tree in the front yard that kept freezing so I decided to take it out rather than cut it back every year. Haywood removed the tree, roots and all.
Member Comments:
They were fast and reliable. No complaints. Even though I mentioned Angie's List when first getting a quote they forgot to give me the 10% discount promised. Would have been nice to have the $30 off, but still no complaints about the work.

Hayward Tree Service took down a large fan palm (approx. 35 ft) from a difficult location, ground the stump to ground level, and removed all debris.
Member Comments:
A front-entry area of my house, behind a low wall and against the house, had been remodeled to become a sitting area with a flagstone patio and many new plantings. A large California fan palm remained, but annual trimming of the palm was a white-knuckle adventure every year, since there was very little room to drop the fronds without damage to plants and no access to the tree except across the somewhat fragile flagstone. After several misadventures with trimmers that promised but didn't exercise caution, and annual repair of damage that made trimming an expensive propositon, it was clear the tree had to go. Removal would require a crane or elevated bucket to reach the tree from outside the walled sitting area. I sought estimates from four tree service companies, all chosen with heavy emphasis on ability to work carefully. Estimates ranged from Phil Hayward's $650 to over $1200; Hayward was lowest I think because Phil owned his own bucket truck and wouldn't have to rent, but another estimator also owned suitable equipment and was still lots higher. Hayward did the removal exactly as scheduled and just as described, with Phil up in a bucket on a truck-mounted crane, slicing up the tree with a chain saw in sections that could be one by one lowered to the ground in the bucket and removed by a ground crew. It was a very professional and really quite masterful job; Phil Hayward is quite the artist with a chain saw. Cleanup was also as described; the crew removed all but the very smallest bits of debris. There was of course a huge amount of sawdust everywhere from operating a chain saw 30 feet up, but the crew blew, raked and swept to remove a quite acceptable amount. All the work was good to excellent, with the slight exception of stump grinding, which was only adequate. The stump grinder had to be positioned on the flagstone (which Hayward carefully padded first), and perhaps because of the caution required they stopped grinding a bit short of getting the stump fully below ground level. Because I'm fussy, I did a bit more by hand with a pickaxe. In retrospect, I'd rather that Hayward did stop grinding early rather than risk damage to the patio. In summary, Hayward Tree Service did a very good job at a task requiring much more care than the usual, and at a rock-bottom price.

Tree knocked over in the recent storm and needed to be removed.
Member Comments:
Excellent overall experience (bear in mind this was after a major storm and most companies were not returning calls or would not come out for days) - 24 hour live answering service offered to send someone over that night (not necessary); Phil came next day to provide quote (accepted) and he took a lot of the "weight" off the tree trunk so that it was safe until he and his crew could come back to finish the removal. On time, on quote and completely met my expectations. I would definitely use again!

Removed dead trees and grinded their stumps
Member Comments:
It went well, they showed up ontime for the estimate and for the actual job. Their price was on the low side compared to competitors and they did a very professional job. I had a few trees close to my house that could've fell on my roof if cut incorrectly and they did a great job of strategically cutting down the tree so it didn't fall on the house. One guy in the crew even climbed the tree to ensure he cut all of the branches properly. They cleaned up really well also and raked the ground. It looks like the trees were never there.

Cut down a huge two story Bottle tree, and three Bell Oleanders. Grind out seven stumps in front and back yard. Haul all debris.
Member Comments:
Phil was the only contractor to arrive on time out of seven called for bids. He was professional and confident about the bid. He was able to schedule me in within a week despite heavy monsoon storms in the valley. His crew and equipment arrived later than I expected but it worked out better so the kids could watch his bucket truck and mulcher. The job was finished within two hours and the crew left my yard cleaner than they found it. We all enjoyed watching Phil with his chainsaw.

We found Hayward Tree Service through a coupon in the mail. We are die-hard do-it-yourselfers but we know our limitations, and removing palm trees should definitely be deferred to the professionals. So as a Mother's Day gift (to me) in 2005, we looked into the feasibility and affordability of removing two very tall fan palm trees. Phil did everything he said he would do - from original appointment for estimate, arriving promptly on the job, cleanup, etc. In addition to removing the palm trees, Phil & crew trimmed & shaped junipers and trimmed other trees. We will definitely call Hayward Tree Service for all future tree maintenance. The price we paid included a discount offered with the coupon we received in the mail.
Member Comments:
Phil with Hayward Tree Service demonstrates professionalism that I hope to experience with other contractors & tradesmen in the future. He was prepared with the necessary manpower & heavy duty equipment, and stayed & supervised until the job was complete including complete cleanup. I highly recommend Hayward Tree Service.
